Property in Knysna is frikkin expensive -  as it is everywhere remotely beautiful. It's as if somebody wants to deny the poor people the beauty of South Africa.

I have a theory about property prices in general. If you checks where the cheaper places are...in comparison to the expensive ones. I think, though this may be rather far fetched - but I reckon property prices are  driven up so black people can't afford to move in to particular areas. Atleast not the majority. 

I mean imagine if all the people in Soweto where to move north. What do you think that would mean? Or what would be the reaction from the minority?

    Hmm... a sweeping statement there.

    I think it would be dope, if all people lived in the same area. It would create a 'rainbow nation' that actually lives together, not only when the Springboks are playing.

    But, I think, it is now legislation that all 'property' developments (as in complexes, that type of ish) should include all income groups in the same area. That I support,,, that way we can do as the freedom charter says,

    I know, I know. It's unjustified. But I think it anyway. It just makes sense to me, even though it may not be a sensible thing to think it possible.

    Anywho - I think if we all lived around each other, poor, rich, black, white etc. We might just learn something from each other - it may just bring us all closer together. But I'm an idealist.

    Ngujaz - I also like. Freak, who wouldn't. And yet I bet you there are some that wouldn't.

    I have to disagree, this isn't a black versus white thing. I have seen it happen in all 14 countries I have lived in. In Bangkok the divide between rich and poor is shocking, same as the US/UK and most of Europe.

    Colour or race don't play any part in capitalism and it's wheels moving.

    Daniel I note your disagreement. However I'm talking in the South African context - and the reality is the majority of poor people are black.

    In the 14 countries you've lived in Daniel - have you ever come across a situation where the ratio of poor to rich is the same for all races? Or at least is the same in percentage terms cause obviously you don't have a situation where the number of people that fall into different race groups are the same for the different race groups.
    Point being, I'm not sure if you can talk about poverty and not talk about race - I think they are part in parcel. That's how people are defined really isn't it. Black, white...

    I have to say that I agree with Daniel that the divide between the rich and poor is not neccesarily about race. I have seen this divide in the African countries that I have visited, where black people were divided by wealth or lack thereof....

    However, I do feel that in SA, the divide between the rich and poor is etched in race. Simply because, the majority of wealthy people are white (with exception of weathly ppl of colour who are incidently downgraded as being BEE pawns of sorts) and the majority of poor people are black.

    Humans are creatures of sterotyping and hence black is associated with abject poverty and white with wealth (hehehee www, jokes). This problem will always remain, until we unite and resolve our past pains and except & understand our differences....

    Actually scrap that, race, culture, creed, religion, shape, language, gender, will always be reason for division for humans....what can I say, we don't like what is different or what we do not understand....so can we blame ppl for not wanting poor (black) ppl from moving into the burbs when it is just human nature to so....or should we be concentrating on finding a means to help us break away from our instinct.....
