I almost got into a fight with this blur…this photo was made a few minutes before.
It was around 4 o’clock in the morning, had been drinking for 8 hours and had a great time meeting a lot of interesting people. Some of the details have been lost between the drunkenness and the hangover… it went something like this:
Tagore’s in Observatory, blur gets up from the bar and walks to LP collection on the corner, takes one out and says “let me teach something to these ignoramus about music” while holding a Led Zeppelin album… one of our friends says “fuck off” and while I’m discussing the musical importance of Miles Davis electric period with someone else, I miss part of the altercation when the blur turns to our friend and asks “So what do you do?”, “Me? At the moment nothing” answers him to what the blur replies “Well, I do a lot, very important things, more important than anyone else in this
joint!”… we all look at one another and my partner asks “is he for real???”, our friend nods his head and says “ yes, I think so”… this is the moment when I get involved and ask the blur “so… what do you do that is so important?”, “I’m an editor!” he answers very proudly, “and what have you done that might have been so important in our lives?”, at this moment he fidgets a bit, moves closer to me and asks in an intimidating way “and what do you do?”, “I asked you first, we’re not talking about me here, I’m not the one saying that I do very important things… tell me one thing that you’ve done that has had a serious impact in our lives!”, “where are you from?” asks him noticing my accent and avoiding the question… “please answer my question, tell me one thing, just one important thing you’ve done!”… our faces are as close to one another as possible without loosing focus, the only thing in between is my finger shaking the emphasis on “one thing, c’mon, if you’re so important I’m sure you can tell me one thing you’ve done…”, at this moment I was provoking him, not for a fight, but for an explanation of the origin of his unjustifiable arrogance… “Stop shaking your finger in front of my face!” he shouts… maybe I went too far, I realize, so I remove my finger but keep on looking him in the eye and repeating “ one thing, tell me one thing, don’t avoid the question”, everyone else gets involved, they pushes away and make some space, distracting us and easing the tension…
It ended with the blur trying to make friends and saying that we should get together and have some doughnuts (?!) but I was already moving towards the door being dragged by my partner while controlling myself not to tell him what to do with his doughnuts…
